The Pokemon Go Revolution
There is probably no need to start by explaining what Pokemon Go is, the phenomenon is sweeping across the world faster than anything. Pokemon Go hit the biggest mobile game in U.S. history within a week! Not only that but it is being used more than any other app (including Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram) but it is also the app that is being most downloaded right now. But of course with all this success come all the haters and yes some of these people are well justified in their dislike for this game but most of these people are hating on this game for basically no reason.
Now if somebody is trespassing on your yard to catch a pokemon you are very justified in your dislike of this game. If I was you I would feel the same way. Those very delicate sites like holocaust sites that are pokestops with people constantly gathering around is fairly disrespectful so I understand people getting upset over that. Some people that are playing this game really need to learn how to be more respectful but if these people aren’t bad enough we have people that are walking on live train tracks, running onto highways and even walking off a cliff! Please people look up from your phone and see where you’re going. Also stay off your phone while you are driving, if you want to play the game pull over or hand your phone to the person in the passenger seat.
Despite these negatives there are far more positives. Today as I drove home from downtown on Cambie Bridge I saw something that I have never seen before. Dozens of people were actually walking across the bridge, albeit on their phones trying to get kilometers for their eggs or trying to catch that nearby pokemon but nonetheless they were walking! One of the first ever video games/mobile games that actually encourages people to get out of their houses, walk as much as possible, gather with other people at spots like Queen Elizabeth Park, Stanley Park, Metrotown and others to play pokemon.
So let’s just get the facts straight here for a second. Since mobile phones and computers have come to be people have been complaining that “the problem with our generation” is that kids are no longer going outside or getting any exercise. While that is mostly true, as soon as a game comes out that actually rectifies that problem people are in uproar about this game. This game is causing some problems, yes but it is also solving a lot of problems that other video games like candy crush have created. I for one think this game is doing great things for the community, kids everywhere and overall health.
