Twitter Plays Catchup
For the longest time Google has been leading the world of E-Marketing and been the industry leader for Advertising. A few years ago Facebook shook the nearly monopolistic market as the entered the industry providing advertisers a more targeted approach to E-Marketing. Now of course these 2 aren’t the only players in the industry but they are by far the most dominant player.
As of late however, Twitter has began stepping up there game. Twitter began serving up ads in 2011 but for the longest time only the big players or US businesses could serve up ads. About a year ago Twitter began expanding this. I remember last year in November I was finally allowed to create a Twitter Ad account for our family business (www.gabatravel.com – travel agency).
Now Twitter is finally preparing some big moves to try and steal market share from Google and Facebook. Twitter is preparing their new platform that is rumored to be called “Fabric.” This product is expected to be officially unveiled by October 22nd. Of course with rumors all details cannot be certain. A few years ago Twitter largely closed off it’s very pro-developer view but this move seems to be a move in the right direction. What I find to be the most exciting feature is, “Digits” which enables new users to use their phone number (which will probably be linked to you twitter previously), to sign up for what developers have to offer. It is said the Twitter will be using “Fabric” to collect user data that will better allow it’s advertisers to target their ads.
If the rumors are true this really does provide a simpler (but possibly more insecure) sign-up/sign-in solution for users. This will allow Twitter to collect a lot more data which is better for e-marketers like us because the more data we have to work with the better we can utilize Twitter Ads.
